This section of the website will be populated bit by bit. My photography has improved so much since I took pictures of my early quilts, that for those that I can, I plan to re-shoot.
'Mistress of the North'
This doll is associated with the direction North, as suggested by her wintry colors. According to indigenous American lore, North is associated with with Wisdom, the color White, and the Buffalo. I imagine that she is looking inward to find her Wisdom.
She holds two keys & a skunk vertebra. I knit her body out of grey mohair. Her face is stamped & drawn over. Hair is satin cording and vintage floss. Both her apron and sleeves are recycled garments.
About 12" tall.
'Passion House'
_
About 3' x 4'
This mid-sized quilt was commissioned for a 60th birthday and reflects the recipient's passionate love of travel and decades-long commitment to community service around the globe.
Most of the quilt is pieced, with some chunks of fabric raw-edge appliqued. Fabrics include linen, silk, madras, Australian imports, batik, an African tie-dye, and quilting cottons.

'Thai Honeymoon'
_About 2' x 3'
This quilt was commissioned as a wedding gift for a couple who honeymooned in Thailand. The large arch suggests stained glass, while the large swirls of the batik (printed in nearby Indonesia) represent the ocean. The swirling leaves in the surround appeared both joyful and fertile to me.
Machine and hand-quilted. Appliqued & pieced.
Fabrics: silk, Indonesian sarong rayon, & African batik.

Liberty Collage
4" x 6"
One year, I helped out with the Prom decorations at my local high school. The overall theme was
music, and my particular section was "Remix". I happened to be reading "Remix" by Lawrence Lessig
at the time, and so included images of the Statue of Liberty to suggest that the current laws
governing digital media were antiquated and unfair (this little collage piece is a photograph of
part of a 6' figure). NOT a proponent of piracy, Lessig nevertheless wrote: "...we're not thinking
enough about the harm to a generation from rendering criminal what comes naturally to them."
Craft papers, photos of original collages and quilts, rubber stamping.
Stitched and glued.
