Welcome
I am a fiber artist living outside of Boston with my husband, two sons, and Welsh Corgi, Jack. I was lucky enough to grow up with an art teacher-Mom, so while I am not formally trained, I don't consider myself quite self-taught either.
Paper was my first love, and collage is my basic approach. A lot of what I have learned or devised over the years has been to correct mistakes or work with an unintended result, which makes me an 'improv quilter'. Even though I know a lot more about quilting and sewing than when I made my first patchwork quilt in 1989, I continue to design-as-I-go. I now draw a lot more than I used to, continue to make paper collages, and since I started my blog in 2008, take more photographs than ever.
I love saturated colors and am an omnivore when it comes to fabric. Combining techniques and fabric weights and colors is kind of my thing. Although most of the quilters that I admire and follow online do not use commercially printed fabrics, I remain a fan - partly because I like the way printed fabric can start to tell a little story even before I know what it is. In the last several years, I have begun transferring photos of my collages onto fabric and incorporating them in my dolls and quilts. If you would like to read a little more about me, visit the "ABOUT" page on my blog -- Dee Mallon and Cloth Company.
My online ETSY store, ClothCompany, features felt brooches, archival prints of quilts and collages, dolls, seasonal items, and quilts that are not listed on the Sale page here.
I love to hear from folks, so feel free to email me -
